ANXIETY TOOL-BOX: Using The Universal Laws

The Law of Mentalism

“All is mind; the universe is mental.”

Practical Application:

  • Practice conscious thinking. Your thoughts shape your reality. Monitor and shift your thoughts toward what you want to create.  Focus on what you desire, not what you fear!
  • Example: Start your day with affirmations or visualization to program your mind for success and positivity.

2. The Law of Correspondence

“As above, so below; as below, so above.”

Practical Application:

  • Use life as a mirror. If something is off in your outer world, look within to find the source.
  • Example: If you experience recurring conflict with others, reflect on your internal dialogue, are you being harsh or judgmental with yourself?

8. The Law of Relativity

“Nothing is good or bad until it is compared to something else.”

Or: “Everything is relative.”

Everything in life just is, until we compare it to something else. The Law of Relativity reminds us that our judgments, struggles, and successes are all based on perspective.

Practical Applications of the Law of Relativity:

1. Shift Your Perspective in Difficult Times

  • When you’re feeling down or overwhelmed, remember that challenges are relative.
  • Practice:
    • Compare your current hardship with a past one you’ve overcome.
    • Realize your strength and progress instead of focusing on what’s wrong.
    • Say: “I’ve handled worse—I can handle this.”

2. Stop the Comparison Trap

  • Instead of comparing yourself to someone “ahead” of you, compare to where you were a month, a year, or five years ago.
  • Practice:

    • Use journaling: “How have I grown?”
    • Celebrate your own timeline. Everyone’s journey is different.

3. Use Contrast to Cultivate Gratitude

  • Contrast helps you recognize what’s good. You can’t know light without dark, or joy without sadness.
  • Practice:

    • At the end of the day, list 3 things you’re grateful for that you might otherwise take for granted…..like clean water, mobility, or a safe home.
    • In the morning read over those 3 thoughts of gratitude and add one more.
    • Before bed read your list of gratitude.
    • Continue to do this as part of your daily routine.

4. Neutralize Emotional Triggers

  • If someone triggers you emotionally, use relativity to take a step back.
  • Practice:
    • Ask: “Compared to the big picture, how important is this?”
    • This helps you regulate your emotional response and gain clarity.

5. Use Relativity to Set Realistic Goals

  • When setting goals, compare only to your own past progress, not others’ highlight reels.
  • Practice:
    • Track your weekly growth and acknowledge small wins as meaningful steps forward.

Affirmation to Align with the Law of Relativity:

“I choose to see my challenges in context and recognize how far I’ve come.”
